What a day it was? Scintilla had a very unique call - an elderly person calling and checking out if our store was open all the days for which I said Yes and politely inquired about the timings of our store and blessed me kindheartedly on the phone "God Bless you dear!!" Isn't this rare to hear some one say so over phone? I felt so..
The same day, I got a visit from this beautiful, energetic and young at heart lovely woman (she was 82 years old) inquiring if this is "Scintilla" and we welcomed her to our store. She was beautiful, deep down her soul..She had a lovely recollection of her life in Bangalore, how the roads have changed.. how she used to drive all alone by herself in the quiet and scenic roads of Bangalore... Not once she complained the way her life is now.. she was so positive and vibrant and blessed each and every one at the store...Later on we came to know that she lives all alone (Only Son had relocated to Canada) through the auto driver who came in to take her home.. I was told that she does all the work by herself (cooking, cleaning, washing, gardening, sewing etc..) without any help (though she lives in an apartment complex where she could have easily hired someone to take care of the daily chores).
She wears only Sarees and wanted some kind of Shrug or shirts to wear on top of her Saree. She told me that the evenings were getting cold for her and needed something to cover herself up on top of her Saree..We showed her couple of our button down shirts and she liked them instantly. She had a request and asked us to change the buttons for which we told we do not have any press buttons with us. Can you believe she carried her own press buttons along with her and told me.. "My Child, can you please have these press buttons added in place of the regular buttons as I can't easily manage the regular buttons?". My tailor got it done as per her request and she blessed her with all her love and enthusiasm once again :) My tailor was overwhelmed with emotion as she has never seen any one bless her so much in life :)
When I asked her mobile number to save on the POS she quietly gave me her landline phone number and told me that she had never carried a mobile phone with her till date and does not wish to carry one for the rest of her life! I was surprised and then recalled that she did call me from her land line phone earlier that day.. I did the bill and got cash from her (she told me that she doesn't know how to use a card either). Along with the auto driver, we slowly walked her to the auto and she waved Good Bye to all of us and left our store happily like a cute cheerful little kid with shopping bags in her hand :)
This incident happened almost two years back and after that she visited our store twice with a help of her apartment neighbor once and again with the same auto driver..She promised me to visit again along with her grand daughters who would visit her from Canada...Waiting to see her soon.. May God be with her and make her spirit even more stronger! Thank you Ma'am for your visit to our store - Scintilla.
